UPDATE: A company representative told Giant Bomb’s Patrick Klepek, “We’re aiming to launch the Diablo III beta between July 1st and September 30th. Please keep in mind that it’s our current goal, and of course that can change as development continues.”
In the Activision Blizzard Q1 earnings call this morning, Blizzard CEO Mike Morhaime confirmed that “external” Diablo III beta testing will be available during third quarter this year. That means the beta will be out sometime before October.
“We began internal company-wide testing last week,” Morhaime said. “The game looks great, and we’re currently targeting a Q3 launch for external beta testing.”
Morhaime unsurprisingly was hesitant to offer any information on the release date, but did say this: “The development team is working hard to try and launch Diablo III this year,”
As with all of Blizzard’s products Morhaime reminded us that “We will not compromise the quality of the game in order to hit a window.”
